Jewel's Catch One Celebrates 30th Anniversary with the help of Orlando Puerta of Warner Bros. Records, DJ Justin Early and Gioia
Los Angeles, CA - January 14, 2003*** The legendary dance club, Jewel's Catch One, is celebrating its milestone 30th anniversary this year and is launching a brand new Thursday night Latin House/Hip-Hop party called "JUNTOS" (Spanish word for "together"). The weekly party will kick into high gear the night before Valentine's Day with a splashy opening on February 13th, 2003 featuring New York veteran House/Hip-Hop DJ Justin Early at the turntables and an electrifying performance from Gioia, formerly of EXPOSÉ, who is about to take the world by storm with her solo career. -more-
JUNTOS' co-creator is Orlando Puerta. Though his current duties include working with such artists as Madonna and Cher, as the Director of Dance & Lifestyle Marketing at Warner Brothers Records, Orlando who started out as a club promoter has returned to his roots to launch JUNTOS. Puerta's aim is to bring together the Latin community and the hottest national deejays and remixers to Jewel's Catch One, the club he says he "grew up in", on Thursday nights to dance and party while raising awareness and financial support for club owner Jewel Thais-Williams' non-profit organization, The Village Health Foundation Clinic. The clinic was opened last year to provide quality supplemental and alternative medical care to everyone, regardless of ethnic background, sexual orientation and financial situation. Partial proceeds from Jewel's Catch One go directly to help fund the clinic. -more-
Jewel's Catch One has long been a celebrity hangout and recently received a revamping when Madonna herself requested to hold her "MUSIC" album release party there, an event which Puerta helped organize. The JUNTOS kickoff party will be yet another revitalizing moment in the club's vibrant history. -more-
DJ Justin Early, co-creator and promoter of JUNTOS, will keep the party groovin' all night with his master hands. Justin's dynamic background includes working for renowned Indy and major labels such as MAXI Records, Ariola Dance and consulting for ARISTA, RCA and Columbia. He has also played at some of the most well known clubs around, with credits that include New York's SOUND FACTORY BAR, THE MONSTER, SPLASH PHAB and LIFE as well as London's MINISTRY OF SOUND. He is currently a resident deejay at HERE LOUNGE in West Hollywood. -more-
The night will be set ablaze when Gioia (pronounced "joy-ah"), the former member of the Arista Records pop group Exposé, takes the stage and unveils several of her upcoming releases and performs some of everyone's favorite EXPOSÉ classics. Gioia's singing career was previously stunted due to an inoperable tumor, which was found on her vocal chords by doctors. After five years, much faith, healthy living and a miracle from God, the tumor has disappeared. Now, Gioia is singing better than ever and making an unbelievable comeback with "that voice!"
