KARAOKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS COME TO ORLANDO
Preliminary rounds leading to state finals held in Orlando

Over 15 million people watched in anticipation as an American Idol was crowned on Fox. Now a new contest begins that will lead to the crowning of a world Karaoke champion. The preliminary rounds of the Karaoke World Championships/USA leading to the Orlando and eventually the national finals are starting now. On September 21st and 28th at Friends Lounge in Winter Park, the preliminary rounds will be held that will lead to the finals for the city of Orlando. From the city finals, contestants will move on to the state and then national finals for a chance to represent the USA in Finland at the World finals. According to owner Jeff Redington of RedNeptune Productions this represents an exciting new opportunity in the world of karaoke.
This is the first year that the United States has participated in the world karaoke contest that is held in Finland each year. There will be contestants from all 50 states competing in the national finals in June of 2003. From there finalists will be sent to Heinola, Finland to compete against the rest of world including England, Australia, and South Africa. The local contests are being managed by RedNeptune Productions and are being sponsored locally by Friends Lounge in Winter Park which has always been dedicated to the karaoke scene in Orlando. The entry fee for the contest will be $40.00 and is payable the day of the contest. The majority of the entry fee will go to the National contest with a small portion going to administrative costs and will be used to fund the grand prize trip to Finland.
