STUDENTS “D.A.R.E. 2 TAKE A STAND” AT POINTE*ORLANDO
ORLANDO, FL – October 17, 2003 – Orlando students will party at the Pointe as WPRecords, D.A.R.E. and Pointe*Orlando host “D.A.R.E. 2 Take A Stand” on Friday, November 28, 2003. This free concert for Orange County students will raise awareness for the D.A.R.E. Program in a fun, family friendly environment, with music, contests and entertainment throughout the evening. The event will kick off at 6:00 p.m. and the festivities will last through 10 p.m. at Pointe*Orlando located at 9101 International Drive across from the Convention Center.
“D.A.R.E. 2 Take A Stand” will feature live musical performances by JETT17, a R&B family band whose single "PARADISE" is currently burning up the radio airwaves; Fatai, an urban songstress with a rhythmic touch; Lelani, a suburban rhythm surrealist; and The Kick Off, a band of young radical punk rockers with a hard core kick. Also appearing that evening will be San-Tana, whose reggae flavor is straight from the island shores of Jamaica. Throughout the evening there will be a karaoke contest with celebrity judges, a D.A.R.E. awareness presentation and a raffle with prizes donated by local vendors.
The D.A.R.E. Program has evolved into the most extensive national network for drug prevention education which now operates in 80% of all school districts around the country and reaches 36 million young people each year. As a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, D.A.R.E. officers and prevention organizations collaborate on approaches to address substance abuse and violence in their communities by teaching curriculum designed to extend student’s abilities to take charge of their own lives and encourage advocacy.
WPRecords is Central Florida’s hottest independent record label with a vision. Striving to be a positive, profitable & "artist friendly" force within the music industry, WPRecords has its finger on the pulse of the next musical wave. WPRecords will be donating a portion of the proceeds earned from merchandise sales at the concert to D.A.R.E. to keep the heartbeat of substance abuse education going strong.
